Projector

I bought a projector last month.

I had told myself that I wouldn't. For about a year, in fact, I told myself that I wouldn't. I already spend too much on toys. Well, just one especially large toy really, but a toy nonetheless. No more toys until the Viper is paid off, I would tell myself.

Well, funny how things work out, as I am sitting here watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind being projected onto my living room wall.

In a way, the purchase was inevitable. A home theater projector is the perfect synthesis of my A/V geekdom and my general technology geekdom; I was destined to end up getting one. Lucky for me, they got cheap. What was a ten thousand dollar projector became a five thousand dollar projector, which becomes a two thousand dollar projector, which became a DLP projector with a built in deinterlacer for $799. Sold.

I had forgotten how cool of a movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind was.

Around the age of 16, I discovered the simple, yet profound truth that in order to really enjoy a good song, you need to hear it on a great sound system. Well engineered speakers to bring out the highs, and plenty of watts to let you feel the lows. A good sound system transforms a great song from something you hear into something you experience.

I didn't expect the projector to do the same for movies. But goddamn, am I enjoying Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
